Dont Try So Hard, Google. Chillax!
I was a user of google voice during its dark ages (before the major app and interface overhaul in January 2017) and I stuck it out all that time. For the most part, I am glad the app has improved for the better and the new bells and whistles are definitely appreciated.
However, I feel Google and its app engineers are making the simplest of functions in this app very tedious and unnecessary, in an attempt to be different. One major example: why must deleting a message thread be a FIVE steps process? Why not make it a quick swipe left, plus confirm to delete? Or even for users to simply select the message in the main message interface and delete? Instead, we have to open the conversation thread, click settings, select delete, be warned if "are you sure you want to permanently delete?" then finally are able to click delete. Seriously? Just to delete a text conversation? Good grief!! There is a back up of the same exact conversation thread on my corresponding google account online, so even if I delete a message thread accidentally on the app, I still can access it online. I have no plans to blackmail anyone by keeping copies of my text messages on my phone for years on end. So if I delete a message, its with the full intention of deleting it. I hate having to go through Fort Knox before being able to do so.
This is a messaging app Google, nothing more. Study and emulate what iMesage and WhatsApp are doing and be done with it. You are making the simplest of tasks aggravating. If it wasnt for the fact that my google voice number is tied to a small personal business, Id have gotten rid of this app and service a long time ago. Try harder Google engineers, youre currently failing.
