Crashes/text messages

I use google voice for business exclusively, so my clients won’t have my personal cell number. The app updated when I updated to iOS 11.1.x on my iPhone 6. The app always crashes at a random time while I’m composing a text message. The crash often occurs within the first 15 to 20, so I usually will type my message outside the app, copy it, then open the app and paste it in the texting box.

The app freezes and makes the icon appear dark on the home screen as if it’s updating the app. I’m uncertain why it turns dark.

Google is a multi-billion dollar company. Their engineers should be able to fix this app.
