This latest version of Google Voice has some good things going for it, but then some really weird things, too. One of the really good things going for it now is the ability to send MMS messages. The ability to quickly switch between Google voice account is also very nice, but there is one glaring flaw. When trying to choose a photo to send via an MMS message, it only allows you to tap into your photo stream, you cant get into your favorites, screenshots, any other album that you have on your phone. This is a glaring flaw in my mind, And one I hope is rectified very soon.
Google Voice App Reviews
Latest update has ruined it
Worked perfectly fine before and now it crashes frequently and does not show new messages.
Wont play voicemail (version 2.4, iOS 10.3.x)
I just, as of 2017-06-05, updated to the the 2.4 version of Google Voice (on iOS 10.3.something, on an iPhone 6), and now when I try to play voicemail messages, they simply wont play. Not with my ear to the phone, not through the speaker, not through headphones, either Bluetooth or wired... nothing. It *sometimes* shows the visual feedback of acknowledging my having pressed the play button, but then it just doesnt play. No audio, no movement on the progress slider, not even a "busy" indicator. Even if I wait for quite some time. So, given that the transcriptions arent always correct, particularly with respect to phone numbers, I cant hear a message to get a number to call someone back. Or for any other reason I might want to actually hear the message. Unusable. Beware this update! Hopefully therell be a fix before long.
Bring back star or mark unread
It is so difficult to keep track of texts/vms without the starred or mark as unread feature. Please add or bring this option back!!! Also, the app experiences a significant delay when you open it, even if you just had it open a moment ago.
Buggy
After recent update, the app crashes a few times a day and new text messages are not showing up on the main SMS list. Its a mess.
Love the service BUT
Please for the love of God add support for making calls with Google Voice on iPhone from the native dialer. Thats the most important feature to me.
Cannot see messages past a certain date
Before this latest update, you could scroll thru all your messages no matter how far back. Now, you can only go back to a certain date. Youll have to do a search for a text or a message if its not very recent. Also, the click to call feature is my favorite thing about google voice and its gone. Please fix both of these things.
Irritating bugs that go unfixed for years
This app is incredibly frustrating, because its so useful but is marred by rage inducing bugs that go unfixed version after version. The most irritating bug is that messages constantly remain in the "unread" state even after youve read them, resulting in the apps icon badge telling me there are for example 3 new unread messages. I go in the app and there are indeed 3 bolded messages, but Ive ALREADY read them. I was on the conversation view when they came in! This means I must constantly go into and out of each persons conversation page to clear out "unread" notifications several times to get them to actually go away. The worst part? This happens for messages that *I* send! Im in a conversation and send a message, then hit the home button. Theres now a badge on the app icon saying "1" new unread message. I go back in the app and back out to the main menu, and what does it show me? My own message I just sent is bolded as if I havent read it. Are you kidding me? I wrote the thing! This means for every message I send, I have to back out to the main menu, wait a few seconds for the app to tell me that the message I just sent is "unread", then go back into the conversation view to let the app know that I have, in fact, now read the message I just wrote. Give me a break. Bugs like this make me want to throw my phone out the window every time I use this app.
Wont load all messages or voicemails
Well its updated... but now doesnt load more than 50 of any messages, missed calls, or voicemails! For someone that is busy and receives LOTS of business calls, pretty useless app right now. Used to be able to scroll to the bottom, and it would dynamically load the next set of messages. Not any more. To see more than 50 you must delete or archive the 1st 50 on the screen. You had one job google voice, to show our messages... smh
Latest update does not update SMS
The latest update as of June 7 2017 will notify me of new SMS but even after refreshing within all will not show newest SMS initially or move that message to top of box. I have iPhone SE. This did not happen prior to update! Ill change back to 5 stars when fixed. Thanks!
7+ (iOS 10.x)
The bad reviews... ...are unjustified in my opinion. I needed a second number for my small business and got one for no charge. It came with unlimited domestic calls and messaging—now much easier to manage!—and voicemail transcriptions that forward to my email account. And thats just part of the experience. Did you know that you can schedule hours during which your business/alternative number sends calls directly to voicemail as opposed to ringing? You sure can. Only want business calls from 0900 to 1700 during weekdays? Done. Google Voice is an exceptional service that has become a vital component of my business. I love the iOS app, which has benefitted greatly from the 2017 updates, and hope that Google Voice is here for the long haul. (iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10.x)
Still needs the notes option
I keep waiting for the notes option to come back after the major update. Hopefully well get it back one day and it will be available on the mobile version as well.
Video Sending
The delete option is an awesome update. But I dont like how you cannot send videos...we need an update that allows for that!
Messages stay marked unread
I dont get it, why is this still not fixed after all these updates? I get a message, open app via notification, message stays unread despite reading it.
Google Voice > sliced bread
Please add support for the Siri API. Ive waited years to be able to say, "Hey Siri, call ______ with Google Voice." As a full time tech consultant @nerdslimited , google voice is the only way to keep one number as cell phones, office phones, and home phones change. It would be a deal at twice the price, at $0 it is the greatest app since apps were born! While iOS voip integration like Skype may not be possible since the dealer is routing through POTS lines, it would be amazing.
Lacks major features
Thanks for the update to add support for "Reply" option from text notifications! Please add support for the following: 1. "Do not disturb" within both group and one on one text messages 2. Support for shared contact info files 3. "Mark as unread" option for texts and voicemail 4. "Leave conversation" option for group messages
Click2call still missing…
Would be a 5-star app if Click2call functionality was restored.
Still Awful
Still as bad as the last update which is one of the worst UI updates I have ever seen. You have to wait for calls tab to reorder itself every time you open the app. The quick dial feature is gone and now you have to search through the calls tab to find a number you dial frequently. Whoever authorised this update at Google should be fired.
Where is CallKit support?
Ive been a long time Google Voice user and am a fan of the service. CallKit has been out for a year now and so far no support here. And when you took me away from hangout you took away the voip calling feature. Why?
iOS Update Coming Soon
Google Voice recently updated its app in Android and it is working beautifully now on my Moto G4. Until this update it was very slow in responding as it still is in the Apple ecosystem. Very sluggish & poorly responsive on my iPhone 6 Plus: A big disappointment BUT the technical blogs indicate that the update in the App Store is coming soon so the performance should improve on iPhones too. You will again love this marvelous communications system. Updated on 6/5/17 and now its working great in iOS too.
