Google Voice App Reviews

Apple: time for you to kick Google and its embarrassing "apps" out of your "App Store" -- and any other "developer" doling out crap like this. Google: with a company your size, with well over $10B/year revenue, you embarrass yourself endlessly with the junk you toss out -- not just crappy "apps", but your entire system/platform as a whole. Mr. Bill Gates: youre continuously releasing and improving great iOS apps and services; keep them coming! You see what the rest of us do: Google has always been a joke; now Apple is all but the same since Steve Jobs passed on. Apple, its "app stores", and essentially the everything about Apple have become the equivalent of Googles "Chrome browser extension store. Pathetic.

Ive been using this app for many years and this latest update makes the app practically useless. Please fix the new app immediately.

4/19/2017: This last update has made things incredibly inconvenient. Work through my Google Voice number has come to a screeching halt. 4/26/2017: Another week has gone by and its still not working. 4/27/2017: Reinstalling the app FINALLY fixed it the issue. Back up and running!

I have been an exclusive GV user since 2009 and was tolerant of no group txt & lack of MMS support. Now, the interface is not user friendly and full of bugs. 1) app ALWAYS crashes when I search or attempt to use the dial pad - this means I cannot call or txt on the fly- has to be with a recent contact 2) is super slow 3) when I select a message thread, it often doesnt take me to the last part of the message - its somewhere mid convo and I have to scroll. Not a fair trade off to have crashing bugs just to get MMS/group text support.

The app simply wont open any more. Ive received text message notifications in my email but cant read them because the app will not even open.

This new update is horrible. Every time I open the app and try to make a call it asks me to link my number. It will work for a day and then it will ask me to link my number again. Needs to be fixed ASAP

All of my accounts were reset -- verification texts never arrives. What did you do? So annoying!! Errrr

I love using this app for business wise options but there is still so much this app needs. For example videos,Id like to see an update where it is possible to send videos as well as pictures.

Cant even open the app. Crashing. I am on iPhone 6s Plus. iOS 10.2. Dont tell me to update to 10.3.1

ALL I want to do is call out. WHY cant I make a simple phone call using the app?????

I had the app open when I had someone call my google voice number to test it. It doesnt ring or even notify me of the incoming call. A few seconds later I see a missed call

The current version 2.2 crashes on start and will not let me use the app.

Really surprised that Google cant keep it together with this app. Ive been using the old version quite a bit despite the drawbacks. Now its been updated. Favorites are gone, the app is full of bugs and frustrating to use. How hard is this?

I have to uninstall the app and reinstall to be able to retrieve text messages. Once this process is completed, the app will work for a day. Please fix it.

Just switch to Google Hangouts app. It works better, pics are supported, and its pretty much Google Voice in a better shell.

You get a free new phone number. This could be used either if you want to integrate several phone numbers into one number, or more likely if you want a spare number so that you dont have to give your actual mobile number to everybody you meet. You could use your Google voice number for personal contacts and receive them on your business phone, or vice versa. You can send and receive calls from all your mobile numbers and your landline. And you can send and receive texts from/to all your mobile numbers. As another reviewer said, welcome to 2008. You cant send picture messages. If somebody sends you an MMS message it will be sent to your email address(es). And as far as I can figure out you cant then reply from your email address. You can also send and receive SMS text messages from any computer. This is great if you are traveling internationally and want to avoid expensive text roaming charges, or if youve lost your mobile phone or it needs recharging. Theres a pretty good write up of the features, benefits and limitations on Wikipedia. I signed up for Google Voice soon after they launched it after acquiring it from GrandCentral. As far as I can tell from the revision history, since the acquisition, they havent done very much too The in the face except fix bugs and supports new versions of the iPhone. Im a bit cynical as to why they acquired it from Grand Central and then didnt do anything to develop it in the last 7 years. But my phone number still works, and its free. Wikipedia also recounts the dispute they had with Apple. Apparently it is now integrated with Google Hangouts but I havent tried this. It is mainly intended for US based users, but see Wikipedia for options for international users.

You cant make calls over Wi-Fi with us. Try to make a call on this app, and it goes through my regular phone app just like any other call from my cell phone. Why not use my regular phone app to call out then? This is just stupid.

When I try to login it just says error and goes back to the main Google Voice page with the login button at the bottom.

Please finally fix the message system so that when sending/receiving text messages under the same phone number, link the conversations in one set, and PREVENT the error or random flaw of starting the conversation half-way on a new, separate message (like its on a separate folder or something).
