Google Voice App Reviews
Love the service, not crazy about the latest update
**Update. App version 2.8 on iOS 11.0.3 iPhone 7 on AT&T. The app constantly crashes to the point where I have to type text messages in a different app then copy & paste into the GV app and quickly hit the send button before it crashes. It is not a matter of “if” but “how fast” would it crash... I am a total GV fan and extremely thankful for the service which I would gladly pay for. Now, considering this is a free service and a free app it seems ungrateful to criticize but my intent is to provide feedback rather than complain. Since the last update the app (on iPhone 6, iOS 10.2.1) is SLOW! It takes forever to show new messages/voicemail and when searching for a contact, it takes a few seconds for each letter! Another aspect of the update I am not crazy about is the way the dial screen works; you can either input a number on the keypad (default) or if you would like to search by name, you have to touch a keyboard icon which then takes forever to bring it up and another forever for each letter you type. Not sure why this massive slowdown but I am at a point where I am looking for an alternate app for GV
Crashes if I text
Crashes every time I text more than a few words
too hard that register phone number
select again and again, there isn’t enough phone number to select
Can’t sign in
I have iphone 7plus with (ios 11.0.3 version) After i try to sign in with my google mail account and the terms and privacy page shows up, i press “accept” button but nothing happen and i couldnt use the app
Slow, clumbsy, doesnt update
App is very slow to launch. Once open, I often find the back and conversation and back buttons dont work and I have to wait further for them to function. Finally, the app often doesnt update, especially if I read messages on the web. It just sits there showing "4 new messages" when in fact Ive read them all!! Needs better sync!
MMS broken
MMS sent to AT&T will not be delivered reliably. No error, just not delivered.
Simple and Effective
I have used Google Voice for voicemail for years and enjoyed it; Im using Google Voice over the past week for inbound and outbound text; its so simple and effective
The bad reviews...
...are unjustified in my opinion. I needed a second number for my small business and got one for no charge. It came with unlimited domestic calls and messaging—now much easier to manage!—and voicemail transcriptions that forward to my email account. And thats just part of the experience. Did you know that you can schedule hours during which your business/alternative number sends calls directly to voicemail as opposed to ringing? You sure can. Only want business calls from 0900 to 1700 during weekdays? Done. They need to ensure that access to these features online is easier than having to choose “legacy” view, which many new users will not know about. Google Voice is an exceptional service that has become a vital component of my business. I love the iOS app, which has benefitted greatly from the 2017 updates, and hope that Google Voice is here for the long haul. And thanks for finally bringing suggested numbers back to the dial pad. (iPhone 7+, iOS 11.x)
One Simple Request
CallKit Google! Did you guys seriously just refresh your app for the first time in years and leave out what you know would be the single most convenient line of code in your app for iPhone users? I want my phone to ring when using a phone app...like it would on a phone...like it would on an Android...like it would if you enabled CallKit. Of course I’m only so frustrated bc your app is great otherwise and you’re getting all my information anyways; so stop leaving out small but important features for your apps’ iOS counterparts because I’m not getting an Android.
New UI is refreshing
New UI is refreshing. App icon could use an update. Search function bogs down and gets stuck. Way too slow. Fix that and back up to 5 stars! Current version seems to crash incessantly if composing a message for more than a few seconds. Have to compose in notes then cut and paste as a work around.
New version crashes after opening
Within 1-2 minutes after opening this new version, Google Voice crashes/closes. Makes it very difficult to use.
Gvoice
Its easy to use
No video option??
I wish we could send video. That’s my only complaint so far. Get back to you later if I find something else not up to present standards.
Android App is Better
This app doesn’t allow for me to quickly differentiate between my device number and the Google voice number when making a call. The app requires a call to be originated through it directly instead of through the standard call function of the phone and selecting which number to dial out from. On android I can call and then select which number I’m using to call out from. Additionally, this app does not integrate the Contacts on the iPhone. Unless the contacts are in the corresponding Gmail account it doesn’t populate the numbers to the names. The iPhone app for Google Voice is garbage.
Crashes on iPhone
I never had any issues until recently. The app doesn’t allow me to send text messages without crashing. The support suggestions is worthless.
Love Google Voice, app crashes
Love Google Voice! However, with the most recent update the app crashes 100% of the time I open it. Please fix. Thanks!
Buggy, unreliable, crashes constantly with messages
Version 2.8 crashes constantly, completely unusable for more than one message before it crashes — losing the message being composed as a result of the crash ========= Version 2.7 is more unstable: crashes constantly, losing partially composed text messages; dialing phone numbers is still glacially SLOOOOW, sometimes crashing Lowering rating to one star. Updated for version 2.5 in June 2017 — The GV app may have improved internally, but bugs remain: the keypad is unusable for tapping out a phone number; performance is GLACIALLY SLOW throughout, from refreshing messages in text conversations to updating contact names in calls and conversations. Very disappointing, Google! Updated for version 2.1 in early 2017 — Finally, Google gives some love to this old, old, old app! Pros: streamlined interface, iPad version, now send and view photos in messages Cons: SLOW, SLOW, so slow it seems like the app has crashed sometimes; user interface for calling and messages is cumbersome and confusing Overall, a mixed bag: welcome catch-up improvements; frustrating performance; confusing user interface elements; rating unchanged at 3 stars ========== Updated for version 1.6 in 2015 — OBVIOUSLY no longer a priority. Evidence #1 — the app icon changed in v1.6, but the App Store icon is the OLD one, not the new one Evidence #2 — bugs! example: when composing a text message, iOS 8’s QuickType suggestions cause the Send button to overlay the character count. Sad . . . ========= Once upon a time, this was a great app. Once upon a time… Now, in 2013 its obviously no longer a priority for Google. Key features are missing and only available from the web site. Among the most important IMHO, is the ability to block a caller. The only way to block a SPAM caller is to go to the web site — what could be a simple setting for the app is just missing in action. Google is definitely neglecting Voice…
Still crashes on iPhone 6
Constantly crashes on iPhone 6 and I cant use the web based version anymore either. Even after latest update.
Crashing
I really like Google Voice and use it every day on my iPhone. On iPhone 8+ iOS 11.0.3 and 11.0.2, when typing a text, app crashes. I now compose text in Notes. Then I can paste and send before it crashes. Rating is only till this bug is fixed .
