Verrry slow after update

What happened?!? This app used to be a favorite- it was quick and responsive. The updated interface slowed the app WAY down. Its become so slow that Ive begun shopping for a better messaging app... Maybe it works better on Android, but this is clumsy @ slow ....

WORRIED THIS IS ABOUT TO BE DISCONTINUED

This is perhaps my most used app. Arrgh!! Recently the app frequently I reconfigure it when I launch it. Why cant I set a default phone like I can when using the web-based app? ... call with Hangouts. Makes hard to use iPad as a phone! :-( See this note on the google play store app, re. Talkatone. Is this going to impact this Google Voice app too? Im WORRIED. SPECIAL NOTE TO EXISTING TALKATONE FOR GOOGLE VOICE USERS: Talkatone will continue to support Google Voice users until May 15, 2014. After May 15, 2014 Talkatone users will no longer be able to access Google Voice through Talkatone because Google is discontinuing third party access to Google Voice on that date. We encourage all existing Talkatone for Google Voice users to consider switching to the new Talkatone service, the features of which are described above, prior to May 15, 2014 to ensure a seamless and uninterrupted transition. Happy Talking!

Have always loved the product overall, but IOS app Slowwwww

Though I appreciate having the ability to send photos along with group conversations, the old version is much more nimble than this one. Every time it refreshes it takes quite a bit of time to actually respond to touch requests. Also, I really miss the quick dialer. This is a big leap from the old stale app, but still has some work needed in regards to efficiency.

No effort put into this

Horrible app. Google should rewrite this and fire the previous devs.

Needs a lot of work

As others have said, there is a serious lag when taking any action in the app. Also, why is there no option to delete multiple messages or calls at once. Clearing the log is one consuming and frustrating, making me use the app less every day.

Absolutely the shittiest UI ever. 10s lag for every screen.

Last update screwed it. Seems like google doesnt care much about its mobile experience.

Super Slow And Laggy!

Super Slow And Laggy! Its been like this for awhile and still not getting better. Was never this bad before.

New update made app slower

The new update for the app made it much slower to use.

GROUP NAMES

I wish I could rename group chats, with both android and iPhone users in the same group chat. Its pain having sooooo many group chats and jut "+5 more people"

Constantly crashes

The app is good but it constantly crashes

Doesnt work

Wont complete a simple call.

SLOW interface

At some recent point, the app becomes excruciatingly slow to use. It is pretty clear what is happening to any competent iOS programmer: they are running network code on the main UI thread which is blocking user actions until the network function is complete. Comon Google, for how much you are paying your programmers, this should NOT be happening on a release product.

Worthless!

I was hoping this would be better than skype, but surely I was mistaken. Wasted 15min just trying the # work. Ridiculous!

Slow response since version update w/new UI.

I have use Google voice search the technology since it was acquired (formerly called or acquired from Grand Central...I recall which) and I still love it. I love the services the Google provides with its voice app. But when the iOS app was updated to the version with the current UI the response time dropped incredibly. Its awful and it seems that this only exists on the iOS platform as I have not experienced the same degradation in response time with my Android devices or via a browser.

Cant delete all Messages all at once.

How can I delete all text messages in one button. I have to individually remove each one by one which is a pain in the but lol. Fix please.

It works but its a struggle

Its beyond me how Google puts out such incredible content but this app is such a struggle to use. Very glitchy and crashes often. I continue to use it to avoid long distance charges but just not up to par with what Ive come to expect from Google.

S L O W! S L O W ! SLOW!!!

S L O W! S L O W ! SLOW!!! OMG how slow it is on iPhone 6. With iOS 10.3. What happened to this app. I need it, loved it, and want to continue using but it has become unbearably SLOW! Please update and fix and I will go back to 5 stars. Also miss the favorite contacts and hate having to click ok to call someone. Why did you make the user experience worse. 1 click to call. But I love that I am now finally able to receive photos and send photos. I feel like I am now in 2013. But still far away from 2017. Does Google want me to get an Android? I wont so either make this product great on iOS or will switch away from Google Services.

Dont Try So Hard, Google. Chillax!

I was a user of google voice during its dark ages (before the major app and interface overhaul in January 2017) and I stuck it out all that time. For the most part, I am glad the app has improved for the better and the new bells and whistles are definitely appreciated. However, I feel Google and its app engineers are making the simplest of functions in this app very tedious and unnecessary, in an attempt to be different. One major example: why must deleting a message thread be a FIVE steps process? Why not make it a quick swipe left, plus confirm to delete? Or even for users to simply select the message in the main message interface and delete? Instead, we have to open the conversation thread, click settings, select delete, be warned if "are you sure you want to permanently delete?" then finally are able to click delete. Seriously? Just to delete a text conversation? Good grief!! There is a back up of the same exact conversation thread on my corresponding google account online, so even if I delete a message thread accidentally on the app, I still can access it online. I have no plans to blackmail anyone by keeping copies of my text messages on my phone for years on end. So if I delete a message, its with the full intention of deleting it. I hate having to go through Fort Knox before being able to do so. This is a messaging app Google, nothing more. Study and emulate what iMesage and WhatsApp are doing and be done with it. You are making the simplest of tasks aggravating. If it wasnt for the fact that my google voice number is tied to a small personal business, Id have gotten rid of this app and service a long time ago. Try harder Google engineers, youre currently failing.

Still terrible.

Cmon, Google. You can do better than this. Why make network requests on the UI thread? And why not cache data locally between sessions? This is not rocket science. What a miserable user experience.

Doesnt get me anywhere

Says cant use this phone number. It seems a cell phone is required. Whats the point? I dont get it. Have to have a text capable cell phone, so why not just use my cell phone. The point is to receive text to my ipad. Wow! Big thinkers over dar.
