Google Voice App Reviews
IT KEEPS FREEZING
Nice phone app but laggy
Its better then Hangouts since there isnt a video distraction and I can use anti spam features and privacy features but the app is way laggy. Its very slow when you first load it and it drives you crazy. Also not good to use in the car its too distracting. It seems quicker with latest update lets hope its instant links Hangouts soon.
It works, sort of
As people have already said, it is unbelievably slow and almost non-responsive most of the time. Yes you get pictures in your text now but its unbelievably frustrating to check text, delete text, and sometimes just to return back to the main area after opening a text. You cant help but get the feeling they are trying to lose as many customers with this app as possible so they can dump it all together. Sooooooo slooooowwwwww. If you have the earlier version, keep it. Do not update. Not worth getting pictures, trust me.
Allow call blocking for iOS Phone app
The Google Voice app would be super useful if it could be used as a Call Blocking and Call Screening tool for the default iOS Phone app in settings. The GV app has spam functionality but it only works if your GV number is called first, not if your mobile number is called first.
Latest update 2.5 is terrible
Google redesigned the GUI. Where is Click2Call? My other main complaints is the settings page is now hidden in a menu. Thus accessing options like turning on call forwarding, selecting a #, using Do Not Disturb are hard to find and takes many finger clicks to get to. Horrible. The previous 1.x versions GUI design was perfect.
Notifications dont clear immediately after viewing
When a notification pops down from the top in iOS and its tapped. I view the message and when I go back, it is still unread even though it was viewed through the notification shortcut. It takes several views before it turns into a read text message.
Sllllloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Ugh. Painfully slow. Usually I love me my Google, but they have totally missed the mark with GV. The old SMS-only app was too 2002, so I had high hopes when this update came out. I had switched to Hangouts but initiating texts is so difficult I gladly made the switch back to GV. Mistake. The app is incredibly buggy, crashes often, and is just too slow to be of much use. Hopefully Google can figure out how to get into the 2000-teens before its the 2000-twenties.
Glitchy
App wont take away text notification if individual chat window was previously open. Have to exit chat and re select text message group/person to have it read and notification go away. Also back arrow slide from left of screen is glitchy.
Painfully slow and unpredictable user interaction
Someday, somebody will write a case study explaining why a company with great engineers like google cant write a usable messaging app. As a software engineer I understand it can be very hard to deliver but as a user I am terribly disappointed. The goal is very clear, just take whatsapp or Messages as a benchmark and aim for it. Additionally this has been the application I have seen crash the most ever. Seems like the web framework they are trying to use is totally broken. They should just try to write a clean native app and stop being pretentious.
New Google Voice = Junk
This app is unreliable, a resource hog, and crashes frequently. Messages will not send on the first try, and often the first several tries. Google has made no attempts to fix this crappy display of programming inability.
SLOW
Tired of waiting for the app to catch up with EVERYTHING. Very laggy. Causes me to call the wrong person half the time because it refreshes right as I click to call.
Voice / Hangouts Confusing, Poor Quality
I wish Google would just start charging a subscription so they would put some resources into development.
Utterly useless
I have no idea whos in charge of QA at Google but this app is absolutely useless for Google Voice. Right from the start, one can tell that the Chinese programmer kids in the sweatshops have no clue that mobile devices have a landscape mode. How dumb are they? Then Google illogically demands that I select a phone number to ring when my GV number is called. Why?? My GV is already set up and working, dont f*** with it. But I am not allowed to continue to the app unless I select some number. If I type in my own, that causes an error. LOL I just have to laugh at this point because these retarded monkeys have no clue how to make apps. And the marketing department divas only worry about adding bunch of colors to the UI to appease hipsters but usability has gone to shi*. I already reported these severe design flaws in the forums. We will see how long I will be without the ability to text from my GV #. And the newest update is the biggest f***-up of all. They made it horrendously slow and I see from other reviews that I am not alone in having to wait a minute or two for msgs to appear. Even worse, I have to tap "retry" several times after sending almost every message. That is a brand new bug so somebody f***ed up big time. Cmon, Google, if you want to spy on our conversations, at least make it convenient to us! :)
Slow
Super slow everything takes 5+ seconds from when you click on it. Worked better last year before all the updates.
Completely unusable
Good lord, this app went downhill fast. Used to be easy to navigate, responsive, and had sensible features that were easily accessible. Now it is sluggish to the point of being completely unusable, favorites are MIA, and you cannot delete voicemails without opening each one first and waiting patiently for the menus to respond. Utterly useless.
Loading is so slow
It takes 10s or even longer after entering the app to load call history, messages, etc up to date. Barely usable. This is unacceptable!
Not Secure
No security, no encryption & no privacy. Better options exist for texting calling.
Bring back all view
I want all the text, voice mail and missed call in one view.
Buggy...
What happened Google? Really buggy app, no dialer integration with iOS even though its available to tie into, no favorites and very awkward interface. Longtime user, losing faith...
Doesnt really work even paying for it :(
So it comes down to usually saying it is not working... when it works is nice, but usually just doesnt work at all...
